This boat is part of a fleet of several accomanying the chancellor Meketre as part of his voyage to the Ancient Egyptian afterlife. It is heading to the city of Abdju (more commonly known by its Greek name Abydos), where the god Osiris was said to be located. Burying oneself close to Osiris was an important part of gaining access to the afterlife, and these figurines depicting the ritualistic voyage were included in Meketre's tomb. This one in particular contains priests venerating a statue of Meketre, located under the canopy.
